LARGE-SCALE PROJECTION MAPPING WITH FUR.. LOTS OF FUR.
We met with Hrafnhildur Arnardottir, the infamous Icelandic fashion designer, and hair-sculptor known as Shoplifter. Recognized for her internationally acclaimed large-scale fur sculptures and part-time costume designer to musician – Bjork. The challenge was to build projection mapped animations that could bring a 5000 square foot living, breathing fur installation to life.
For the 3-day festival, Ghostbeast allowed festival goers to enter the belly of the beast. The animated projections were heavily influenced by the natural interactions between forces and viscous materials including fluids, oils, gaseous trails and photo-real computer-generated fur blown softly by simulated wind. These slow moving fractal interactions allowed for the unique, textured surface of this surreal landscape to breathe with life. The combination of meticulous sculptural design, large scale Christie projection and spatialized sound enabled a truly communal immersive experience.
