Step inside the mind of the brand's leading designer

In partnership with GUCCI and The New York Times, The Endless produced a VR short film to invite viewers into the mind of Ignasi Monreal, a leading designer for GUCCI. The brand sponsored a NYT profile of the young Spanish painter, whose radically creative fashion illustrations have led to consistent collaborations with the Italian style giant since he was only 24.

We worked with Ignasi and Mary Howard Studio to first build a physicalized version of the artist’s creative subconscious: we scattered his influences, sketches, and GUCCI illustrations among seven scenes. The production design of the short film was driven by his contemplative and candid voiceover. Ignasi channels mythical Icarus, as he relates his own meteoric rise to industry fame to flying too close to the sun. The custom array of over 100 LEDs on set crafts a surreal, hallucinatory environment which changes as Ignasi charts the course of his creative process.

The final 360 video was featured online by GUCCI and the NYT, giving Ignasi’s profile something only virtual reality could: an immersive glimpse into the subconscious of a disruptive artist who is leaving his mark on global design.
